The Corporate Enforcement Authority (CEA) was established as an independent statutory agency on 7th July 2022. The CEA is equipped with significant resources and enforcement powers required to carry out its statutory functions which include, to enforce and encourage compliance with company law, to investigate suspected offences under the Companies Acts, to prosecute detected breaches of the Companies Act and to refer cases to the Director of Public Prosecutions on indictment. Resourcing the CEA is of paramount importance to enable it to competently tackle breaches of company law and my Department is committed to ensuring that the CEA is appropriately resourced.

The CEA’s exchequer budget allocation for the 6 months from the date of establishment on 7 July 2022 until 31 December 2022 was €3.803m. The CEA's budget for 2023, its first full year budget, was €9,706 million. Budget 2024 further increased the exchequer allocation for the CEA by €1.3m to €11.101m.
