A site owned by Wicklow County Council (WCC) was identified some years ago as being suitable for the provision of facilities for the Coast Guard in Greystones. However, the site footprint had to be revised, and reduced in size, due to an issue with the neighbouring site. The revised footprint has been agreed with WCC, following the receipt of planning advice regarding the possible impact on the proposed development. The legal process for the lease of the site by the Office of Public Works (OPW) is almost complete.

Planning permission has been granted for the development of the Coast Guard Station and the prequalification tender process commenced on eTenders in October 2023. However, for technical reasons, the process had to be discontinued.

Following a further review of the site and plans, a number of issues have been identified that need to be addressed by WCC and Sispar, who manage the Marina, prior to the commencement of a new tender process.

In parallel, some changes to the interior layout of the proposed building are being incorporated into a revised layout. As a result of this it is necessary to obtain an updated Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) and Disability Access Certificate (DAC) and an application for these will be lodged in the coming weeks.

It is anticipated that the new tender process will commence in the coming months following receipt of the revised FSC and DAC, completion of all legal documents and completion of the work by Sispar.

Construction will commence on the appointment of a contractor following the tender process. Construction time is currently estimated at 14-18 months, from commencement to completion.
