221. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the steps he will take to ensure physical distancing and the wearing of face coverings on public transport, buses, trams and trains given there are many reports of lack of enforcement on public transport services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally. The continued operation of public transport services has been a priority throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. The NTA is working closely with all transport operators to ensure that public transport services continue to operate in a safe manner during the crisis.
I have, therefore, forwarded the Deputy's question to the NTA for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
