To ask the Minister for Finance if an investigation is taking place in respect of surcharge interest on arrears being wrongly charged in respect of mortgages that originated with a bank (details supplied); if the matter has been brought to the attention of the Central Bank by the owners of such loans; the number of persons affected by this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am advised by the Central Bank that the issue as outlined by the Deputy has not been brought to the Bank's attention. However, if there is any relevant information that the Deputy wishes to bring to the direct attention of the Central Bank, the Bank has advised it will consider it in the context of it's supervisory activity.
