245. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the progress made to date on the site acquisition process that will identify the location of the new 1,000 pupil post-primary schools to be established in 2020 to serve the Tallaght, Newcastle and Rathcoole areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy is aware, The Minister recently announced the opening of 42 new schools over the next 4 years. This announcement followed nationwide demographic exercises carried out by the Department into the current and future need for primary and post-primary school places across the country.
Following on from the announcement, the locations for all of the schools, including the new post primary announced to serve Citywest/Saggart, will be determined as part of the site acquisition process which is currently underway. Due to commercial sensitivities with site acquisitions in general, I am unable to elaborate further at this time, however, decisions will shortly be made in relation to appropriate sites for the schools announced and will be confirmed at a later date.
