823. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he received a communication from the Department of Justice and Equality regarding the identity requirements of asylum seekers to obtain a driver licence; and when this communication will receive a response. [30896/18]

Currently, Ireland does not issue driving licences to asylum seekers.
I have received communications from the Department of Justice and Equality asking about the position in this regard. I have sought legal advice on this matter and will consider the options available before responding.
