173. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the position regarding the ten greenway cycleway projects that received Department funding in May 2014 in terms of commencement and competition dates of the ten projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [43406/14]

11 greenway/cycleway projects were awarded funding under the Government Stimulus Package, €10m of which was earmarked for the development of greenways.

Funding was awarded on condition that the local authority could complete the project within 12 months from the date of issue of the letter of offer.  In the case of projects not completed within the specified timeframe, my Department reserves the right to withdraw the offer of the grant and seek to be reimbursed for any amounts drawn down during the period.  In the event of a local authority indicating that a project will not be completed within the specified timeframe a decision will be made on how to proceed based on the reasons for project delay and the merits of the individual project.

Projects are currently at various stages of delivery and are being monitored on an ongoing basis by my Department.
