363. To ask the Minister for Defence if he will provide in tabular form the annual saving to the Exchequer from a reduction of 5%, 7%, 10%, 12%, 15%, 17% and 20%, respectively, in the cost of travel and expenses for his Department. [30123/14]

The details requested in respect of the annual saving to the Exchequer of a 1%, 5%, 7%, 10%, 12%, 15%, 17% and 20% reduction to home and foreign travel and expenses for the Department of Defence are outlined. These figures are based on home and foreign travel and subsistence payments to Civil Servants in the Department of Defence in 2013.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 364 and 366 together.

The 2014 gross current expenditure allocation for Vote 36 (Defence) is €668.7m. The Department of Defence monitors and reviews expenditure patterns on an ongoing basis, and at this stage it is projected that the current expenditure allocation will be spent by year-end.

The 2014 gross capital expenditure allocation for Vote 36 (Defence) is €8.277m. Progress on capital projects is subject to ongoing review within the Department of Defence, and at this point it is projected that the 2014 capital allocation will be spent by year-end.
