275. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will advise on the testing system for entry to the taxi industry; the reason the fee for the test is so high at €86.10 per test; if a candidate who has marginally failed part of the test may access their test papers to help prepare for a new test; if the company overseeing the process can consider a reduced fee for persons who have failed more than once or can consider waiving or reducing the fee for those on the live register who are trying to get back to work. The regulation of the small public service vehicle (SPSV) industry, including the operation of the area knowledge test and SPSV Skills Development Programme and the cost of those tests, is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) under the provisions of the Public Transport Regulation Act, 2009.

I have referred your Question to the NTA for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within 10 working days.
