The regulation of the taxi industry is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) under the provisions of the Public Transport Regulation Act 2009. The regulatory arrangements that apply to small public service vehicles falling within the responsibility of the NTA do not restrict the use of such vehicles for private use.

Issues relating to motor tax law are a matter for the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government.
