Following the accident which occurred to an Irish Air Corps air ambulance helicopter on the 19th June 2012 near Borrisoleigh Co Tipperary, the Minister for Defence requested that an investigation would be carried out in accordance with the Regulations set out in S.I. No. 460 of 2009 and that the Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) of my Department would take the lead role in the Investigation. I agreed to this request.

I am informed by the Chief Inspector of Air Accidents that the Draft Report of this accident is in the final stages of preparation and that it will be issued to the interested parties imminently. Following a period of consideration as set out in the Regulations, it is expected that the Final Report will be published on the AAIU website early in the New Year.
