To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the total number of teachers working in the primary school sector, and of those, the number that have not completed one of the following: a recognised three year full-time programme, leading to the Bachelor of Education, B.Ed. degree, a recognised Graduate/Higher Diploma in Education (Primary) combined with a primary degree at level 8 or a level 9 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications; if he will provide the total figure for all teachers who commenced employment within the primary school sector in the past ten years and also the figures for all such teachers who have not completed at least one of the courses listed above; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of whole time equivalent teachers working in the primary sector in the 2011/12 school year was thirty one thousand nine hundred and twenty eight.
