The purpose of the School Transport Scheme for Children with Special Needs is to provide a reasonable level of transport service for eligible children with a diagnosed disability and/or special educational need.

To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if a transport provider operating the school transport scheme on behalf of his Department requires any specialist training in dealing with any incidents which may arise when transporting school children, in particular school children with special needs. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the current procedures set out by his Department with regard to school transport scheme service providers for reporting an incident which arises; the protocol that exists for the withdrawal of the services to a particular child who was eligible for the scheme; if the parents are notified; if the school is notified; the alternative transports that are put in place by his Department with regard to children with special educational needs.
