Question 118: To ask the Taoiseach the number and costs of advertisements placed in national newspapers for job vacancies in the civil and public service in the past 12 months; the number of new entrants recruited from the process; the number of vacancies filled from inside the civil and public service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Two Assistant Secretary vacancies in my Department were advertised in national newspapers by the Public Appointments Service (PAS) in the last 12 months. The cost of the advertisements were borne by the PAS. The PAS ran an extensive search process in both the public and private sectors in respect of each position. The appointments were made by the Top Level Appointments Committee, which has an external Chair and a majority of external members. The successful candidates in both competitions were already civil servants.
