Question 415: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of staff employed within his Department expressed as whole-time equivalents as returned to his Department for the end of 2008, 2009 and 2010, and the figures available for 2011, in tabular form. [37486/11]

I am advised that the following table sets out the number of whole-time equivalent staff in my Department at the end of 2008, 2009, 2010, and end of October for 2011.
Justice Vote 19 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | End of October 2011 |
Department of Justice and Equality (including Legal Aid Board other than solicitors and the Garda Ombudsman Commission) | 2535 | 2357 | 2147 | 2246 |
The structure of my Department has changed over the years in question. Specifically, during 2010 over 125 whole time equivalent staff transferred to the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs and in 2011, 115 whole time equivalent staff returned to this Department. In 2011 my Department also took on responsibility for the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests and the Charities Regulation Unit with a combined total of 10 whole time equivalent staff. Consequently, I would point out that the numbers given for each of the years above are not directly comparable with each other.
