Details are provided on the following table of mileage payments made by my Department to staff for travel purposes since 2007 to date. It should be noted by the Deputy that my Department processes travel expenses payments for the staff of certain Offices and Agencies under the remit of my Department and these payments are included in the figures provided. A list of the relevant bodies included is provided at Note 2 below. The figures indicated also include mileage costs in respect of Ministers of State at my Department since 2007.

It should also be noted that the total expenditure provided below includes an element of cost on bus and rail travel and some other travel-related expenses which are aggregated with mileage allowances on my Department's accounting system. It is not feasible to identify these costs separately, as this exercise would require such a large volume of the expenses claims processed by my Department since 2007 to be reviewed.

Each Minister of State at my Department has two civilian drivers. It has not been possible in the time available to compile the other information sought by the Deputy. My Department has, however, begun the process of collating the information requested and I will communicate with the Deputy as soon as the exercise has been completed.
