Question 1426: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if, in view of the EPA and GSI classification of four sites at Tynagh Mines, County Galway, his Department will undertake a full environmental risk assessment; and if there is any ongoing monitoring at these sites. The remediation of mine sites or the further investigation of such sites from an environmental risk point of view is not a matter for my Department. In line with best environmental practice, individual Ministers are responsible for the environmental implications of their own policy areas and programmes. In that regard, I understand that the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has met with relevant Departments to coordinate the State's response to historic mines.
