I refer the Deputy to PQ Ref No: 2246/10 answered on Wednesday, 20th January 2010. Websites operated by agencies under the remit of my Department constitute a day-to-day operational matter for the agencies themselves.

Why do the Department of Transport consistently provide incomplete answers to PQs? Having reviewed the Minister's replies to numerous questions over the last year, I consider that far too often the reply consists of a statement abdicating responsibility for matters that clearly fall under the Minister's transport brief. It seems any question related to a matter which comes under the aegis of an executive agency of the Department of Transport will be disassociated from the Minister and the Department. This is in stark contrast to how the other Departments deal with such questions. I think it represents very poor accountability considering that the Department has over 500 staff directly at its service and noting that an increasing number of its direct functions continue to be delegated to executive agencies.
