My Department continues to support an ambitious regeneration programme which seeks to improve the lives and conditions of individuals and families living in severe disadvantage. This exchequer funded programme includes a broad range of projects from smaller estates in regional towns, to inner city flat complexes in Dublin City. The following table presents an overview of the programme:

Ballymun, Dublin City CouncilConstruction of new housing started in 2000 and since then, more than a thousand families have moved from the flats into their new homes. At the same time: Project is ongoing.
Dublin City Council — Inner City FlatsOver the past decade the Government has invested some €88.5 million in the Dublin City Council inner city flats regeneration programme to improve the accommodation quality of the complexes as well as to address issues of anti-social behaviour and the serious drugs problem in those areas.The 2009 programme includes projects at Bridgefoot Street, Queen Street, Lourdes House, and Sean Treacy House.
Dublin Regeneration Programme [PPP]There are a number of projects under the PPP programme and formerly considered under the programme, that are being advanced as part of the City Council's strategy for the regeneration of its apartment complexes.In the current market environment, Dublin City Council is examining development options for a number of projects that were previously being advanced as PPPs.
Knocknaheeny and the Glen Regeneration Projects, Cork City CouncilCork City Council has for many years now been advancing an ambitious regeneration programme in both Knocknaheeny and the Glen. 2008 saw the substantial completion of the project at Knocknaheeny D as well as the site enabling works to begin phase 2 of the Glen project.In 2009 the Council expects to complete both these elements, to begin work on the Glen Phase 2, as well as to advance planning on the next phases of the Knocknaheeny regeneration.
Laurel Avenue, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County CouncilApproval issued in October 2005 for the redevelopment of Laurel Avenue in Ballybrack involving the demolition of the 61 existing flats and their replacement with 77 new dwellings at an estimated cost of €16m. This project was substantially completed in 2008.

Waterford City Council Regeneration ProgrammeWaterford City Council continues to advance its regeneration programme focussed on some of the most disadvantaged estates in the City area at Ardmore, Larchville, and Lisduggan. This programme involves the substantial refurbishment of 738 houses, as well as some strategic infill, is being carried out on a phased basis and is expected to be completed in the next two years.Project is ongoing.
Limerick City RegenerationThe Department continues to support the regeneration programme in the areas of Moyross, Southill, St. Mary's Park and Ballinacurra Weston of the City. Since the establishment in 2007 of the Limerick Northside and Southside Regeneration Agencies, the City has seen significant investment in the demolition of properties to facilitate construction, in support for community and social inclusion activities, as well as in a programme of environmental improvements and community safety investment. In addition, the Agencies and other key stakeholders have made progress on the development of masterplans for the areas and consultation is ongoing with the various funding partners.The Limerick Regeneration Agencies in 2009 will continue support for social inclusion activities, investment in environmental improvements and site clearances, as well as planning for capital projects.
Mitchel's Crescent, Tralee Town CouncilThe masterplan for the Mitchel's Crescent Regeneration in the town was completed in 2008 and the Council expect to make significant progress on the infrastructural and community improvements in 2009.Work is being advanced in 2009 in relation to an Integrated Services Centre, the redevelopment of the convent at Moyderwell, a community garden, and general estate improvements across the wider area.
Cranmore Estate, Sligo Borough CouncilCranmore Estate is a 41 acre site with over 500 houses accommodating over 2,500 people and is an area with high levels of social, educational and economic disadvantage. The Council have, over the past number of yeas, been developing a masterplan for the area and implementing the area's social plan.The project is still at the masterplanning stage but the Council has commenced some preliminary work to demolish the centre block and remove the mounds. In addition, the Council will support a number of social inclusion initiatives and will contribute to the Cleveragh Park redevelopment.
Cox's Demesne, Dundalk Town CouncilThe Department continues to work closely with the Town Council to ensure the timely delivery of the regeneration masterplan for the Cox's Demesne area. The Department has also supported various social inclusion and environmental improvements in the area.Pending completion of planning the Council is carrying out environmental improvements in the estate, initiatives to address anti-social behaviour, investment in community facilities and a small pilot project. The masterplanning process will continue in 2009.

In addition to the above there are a number of PPP projects such as The Grange in South Dublin, Magee Barracks in Kildare, Infirmary Road in Dublin, and Ballinode and Carney Housing Project in Sligo where housing authorities are reviewing the project in light of changing market conditions. The procurement of the project at Jamestown Road, Inchicore, Dublin 8 is complete and negotiations with the preferred bidder are ongoing. Dublin City Council is preparing a revised project proposal in relation to the project at Convent Lands.
