Question 183: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the number of applications for grant aid received by his Department from various groups throughout County Kildare to date in 2009; when he expects to be in a position to meet such requirements in full; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have been informed that a total of 15 applications from groups throughout County Kildare have been approved under the Community Development Programme, the Scheme of Community Support for Older People and the Programme of Grants for Community and Voluntary Organisations.

Of these applications, five applications have been approved for funding and received payment. Six applications are currently under consideration. It is unlikely that the remaining four applications, received under the Programme of Grants for Community and Voluntary Organisations, will be approved for funding in the immediate future as this Programme is currently suspended. No new applications are being accepted for this Programme.

For the sake of completeness I would advise the Deputy that in line with the bottom up approach of LEADER, Local Action Groups are the decision makers regarding the provision of funding to project promoters and the Department has no direct role in this regard. The Deputy will be aware that the Local Action Groups selected to deliver the Programme were announced on the 4th November last along with their individual funding allocations.
