Question 104: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the extent to which he will improve, extend or expand expenditure or services in 2009 under the RAPID or CLÁR programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16778/09]

My Department's allocations for 2009 for the CLÁR and RAPID programmes are €16.860m and €7.49m respectively. Deputies will be aware that it is a matter for individual Departments to report on their investment in RAPID areas. I expect a strong spend on the CLÁR and RAPID leverage programmes during the year to meet existing commitments. In addition I will be concentrating on focusing both programmes on priority needs in RAPID and CLÁR areas.

The Deputy will also be aware that my Department is currently undertaking a review of the RAPID boundaries, where attention at present is focused on an analysis of recent Census data with a view to ensuring that the boundaries of existing RAPID areas are appropriate. I hope to be in a position to report on the results of this review shortly.
