Details of the main annual grant schemes funded through my Department's built heritage capital programme are set out in the following table:
Grant Scheme | Description |
Civic Structures Conservation Grant Scheme | The scheme is administered directly by the Department. It provides grants for the restoration and conservation of buildings of significant architectural heritage merit and which are in civic ownership or occupation and generally open to the public. |
Significant Places of Public Worship Scheme | The scheme is administered by the Heritage Council on behalf of the Department. It provides grant assistance for major conservation works at places of public worship which are of significant architectural merit. |
Buildings at Risk Scheme | The Department provides an allocation to the Heritage Council for capital grants. This scheme provides grant assistance to carry out essential repairs to buildings of architectural significance — much of the funding is committed to projects for the repair of the roofs of such buildings. |
Local Authorities Conservation Grants Scheme | The scheme is administered by the local authorities on behalf of the Department. It provides grant assistance for the conservation of protected buildings i.e. those buildings which are on the local authority's list of Protected Structures. |
My Department's civic structures conservation grant scheme for 2008 is funding a project, as follows in County Mayo:
Project | Location | Grant Amount |
St. Michael's Church of Ireland | Church Road, Ballina,Co. Mayo | €10,000 |
Decisions in respect of the built heritage programme in 2009 will be subject to the overall capital funding position to be determined as part of the estimates process.
