My Department does not have a role in certifying contract cleaning companies who use certain biodegradable products.
However, manufacturers and service providers may apply to a designated national authority, which in this country is the National Standards Authority of Ireland, for registration under the voluntary EU Ecolabel Scheme. To obtain the Ecolabel, products and services must meet stringent environmental criteria agreed at European level. Under the present scheme, criteria have been established in respect of 26 product groups including all-purpose cleaners, handwashing and dishwashing detergents.
