Under the Guidelines, Terms and Conditions of the Sports Capital Programme, a "sunset clause" provision exists whereby the Department can fully or partially withdraw grants in the absence of satisfactory progress being made by the grantee, for any reason, in drawing down the grant. In the context of the 2008 allocations under the Programme, it is the responsibility of the grantee to ensure that the project commences and that the Department is informed of the status of the project within nine months of the date of provisional grant allocation and that a substantial amount of work is completed by 31st December 2009. Those provisionally allocated grants under the 2008 programme were asked to achieve this by 31 December 2009. Failure to do so may result in the grant being withdrawn by the Department after that date.
