Question 356: To ask the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 671 of 2 April 2008, the way a teacher may receive the higher pay increment when the institution where he or she obtained his or her degree does not provide individual marks, and works on a pass-fail basis only; her views on meeting her Northern Ireland counterpart to discuss this serious issue; and if she will make a statement on the matter. It is a matter for each individual teacher to provide their employer with a letter from the Registrar of the UK or Northern Ireland College to verify the overall marks achieved in the course. There is an agreed procedure established within my Department for the payment of an additional allowance where a teacher obtains the Post Graduate Certificate in Education.
