While it is unlikely we can eliminate printing altogether, my Department has seen a reduction in paper correspondence, both internally and externally, through the use of electronic mail. The availability of reports and other documents on the Department's website has reduced the number of physical copies being printed of many of these documents. In order to encourage on-screen reading of documents, rather than printing them out, larger screens are being supplied with all new PCs.

As part of this strategy my Department is actively seeking to further reduce the level of printing and is currently investigating the distribution of documents through a web-based document delivery mechanism.
