Question 273: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if her attention has been drawn to the fact that it is understood locally that Coillte intend to sell off 180 acres of its forest at Moyode Woods, Moyode, Athenry, County Galway to be developed as a quarry and of the great unrest locally in so far as the environment is concerned; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Coillte Teoranta was established as a private commercial company under the Forestry Act, 1988 and operational matters are the responsibility of the company.
I have raised this matter with Coillte, who advise me that it is currently considering the sale of some of its property in the townland of Moyode in Galway. I have been advised that no decision has as yet been made and I understand that Coillte has embarked on a local consultation process in the immediate vicinity of the proposed property sale. The area to be offered for sale has yet to be finalised and it is intended to carry out a more detailed consultation closer to the time of the proposed offer for sale.
