The Commission for the Support of Victims of Crime was established by my predecessor in March, 2005 with a three year remit to disburse funding for victim support and assistance measures and to devise an appropriate support framework for victims of crime into the future. I understand that since its establishment in 2005, the Commission has allocated almost €2.5 million to organisations who provide support to victims of crime and of this €102,250 was allocated to the organisation called Victim Support Ltd.

To date this year the Commission has allocated €926,125 to some 37 organisations listed in the table. I should point out that the Commission is entirely independent in the performance of its functions and it would not be appropriate for me to comment or intervene in any way with a decision taken by the Commission in relation to the allocation of funding. As I understand it, the Commission, while it has provided financial support to Victim Support in previous years, it has not allocated funding to it this year, for reasons that, I understand, have been shared with that organisation.
