Question 497: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will ask the Garda authorities to report on the number of complaints received in the past two weeks regarding vandalism to cars in the Oxmanstown Road area of Dublin 7; if arrests were made in this regard; the action they are taking to prevent this recurring; if Garda foot patrols have been increased locally; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that between 1 November and 14 November, 2007 there have been fourteen reported incidents of criminal damage to cars in the area referred to by the Deputy. Nine of the reported incidents arose from one occurrence on the 9/10 November, 2007. One person has been arrested in relation to these incidents and an investigation file is being prepared for the direction of the Law Officers. Garda investigations are ongoing in respect of the remaining incidents.

I am further informed that local Garda management has directed that additional uniform and plain-clothes patrols, including the District Detective Unit, Community Policing Unit and the Garda Mountain Bike Unit, supplemented as required by the Divisional Crime Task Force be deployed in the area concerned with a view to detecting and deterring this type of activity.
