Question 490: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the response measures he will put in place following the recent shooting of a police officer in Derry; if his attention has been drawn to an increase in criminal activity by dissident republicans in border areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The recent attacks on PSNI officers are clearly of great concern. I am sure I speak for all Deputies in being thankful that they were not fatal and wishing both officers speedy recoveries.

Counter-terrorism and combating the activities, both terrorist and criminal, of dissident republican groups remain high priorities for An Garda Síochána, in the border areas and throughout the State. Close co-operation with the authorities in Northern Ireland is maintained in this regard.
