Question 436: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if there has been further progress on his stated intention of establishing funding for political parties to appoint and resource integration officers for the purpose of developing more inclusive practices and implementing strategies to encourage immigrant political participation; if there is a timeframe for doing so; if further thought has been given to the criteria for the funding and what those might be; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In the context of 2008 Budget Estimates, a number of areas have been identified where funding is required to mobilise, encourage and stimulate a wide range of stakeholders, including political parties, to engage with new communities in an effective and strategic manner. The time frame and structure of funding will be determined by the outcome of ongoing budgetary discussions.
