Question 194: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the reason she considers it appropriate or essential that a person applying for a medical card or general practitioner visit card should have to provide vehicle registration documents or if this would be more appropriate to a driving licence application; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health Act 2004, the management and delivery of health and personal social services are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive. This includes operational responsibility for the medical card and GP visit card application and assessment process. Accordingly, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to address this matter and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
