Question 138: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if she will confirm that responsibility for inland fisheries and the development of inland fisheries rests with her Department; the range of activities relevant to inland fishery development that this entails; the budget available to each regional fisheries board for the remainder of 2007; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for inland fisheries and the development of inland fisheries currently rests with the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. The determination of responsibility for these functions will be clarified in the context of a Transfer of Functions Order due to be finalised shortly.

The licensing of aquaculture activity is governed by the Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1997 as amended and is currently the responsibility of the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. Future responsibility for this Legislation will be finalised in the context of a Transfer of Functions Order.
