Question 155: To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the position in relation to redundancy payments, and in particular, where a person has served approximately 25 years with a company, despite the fact that they would have been over 66 years of age upon termination of their employment; if, in that instance, they would be due an entitlement to redundancy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In accordance with Section 4 of the Redundancy Payments Act 1967 as amended by Section 15 of the Protection of Employment (Exceptional Collective Redundancies and Related Matters) Act 2007 employees who are being made redundant with a date of termination on or after the 8th May 2007 are now entitled to receive a statutory redundancy lump sum payment based on their service in the employment and regardless of whether or not they have attained the age of 66 years.
