Question 62: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if, with regard to the recommendations made in the Advantica Report for changes to pipeline and valve stations to ensure that the Corrib pipeline pressure does not exceed 150 bar, he has received information from the developer on the changes which will be required to fulfil this recommendation; and if this will require changes to the project approval process. I have not yet received the information referred to in the Deputy's question. The company has informed my officials that there is extensive redesign work to be done, involving some ten or so different technical teams, and that, because of the developer's internal quality control procedures, it will take some time for such work to be cleared through their internal system before they are submitted for my approval. The consent to construct a pipeline in connection with the Corrib Field development included a condition that my consent is required prior to installation.

In relation to the process that will apply to future projects, I have accepted recommendations arising from the safety review, which will result in change. An example of such change is that I will in future be requiring certain information at the beginning of the consenting process, which currently is asked for on a phased basis.
