Question 540: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 551 of 16 May 2006 if grants are available at present to carry out environmental improvements, similar to those grants that applied where remedial works were carried out to the houses ten years ago. Capital funding from my Department is made available for environmental improvements to local authority dwellings only in circumstances where more extensive works are being undertaken under the Remedial Works Scheme. In all other circumstances, responsibility for financing environmental works lies with the local authority; including in situations where environmental works are being carried out at a later stage to housing estates/complexes which have earlier benefited from the Remedial Works Scheme.
