Question 250: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to a proposal submitted to his Department in April 2005 by the Irish Deaf Society, National Association of the Deaf regarding official recognition of Irish sign language; when they can expect a response; and if he will make a statement on the matter. While I received and acknowledged a copy of the proposal in question, as submitted to the All-Party Committee on the Constitution, I can inform the Deputy that I have no role in respect of the recognition of official languages in Ireland.
