Question 463: To ask the Minister for Transport if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many motorists do not know the rules of the road with regard to the use of the small flat mini-roundabouts in city suburbs and with regard to motorists already on the inner lane of a motorway giving way to other motorists trying to exit out on to the same motorway; if a public information campaign concerning these matters will be organised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The National Safety Council is the agency mandated with responsibility for road safety education and advertising. The council has in the past produced short advertisements encompassing information about roundabouts, motorways and overtaking manoeuvres. The campaign was designed to highlight safe driving practice in these key areas. I understand that the National Safety Council has proposals to develop further advertising campaigns on the rules of the road later this year. The campaign will focus on issues surrounding driving on motorways, driving on roundabouts and safe overtaking.
