Question 17: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if discussions at EU level with regard to the official status of the Irish language have been concluded; if not, when he expects these discussions to finish; the situation on this issue; if he is continuing to liaise with the Department of Foreign Affairs regarding these discussions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by my colleague, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, to Question No. 459 on Tuesday last, 12 April 2005.
As I have indicated on a number of occasions in this House, it would not be appropriate for me to make any public comment on the detail of the ongoing discussions with our partners and the institutions in the EU until they have been brought to a conclusion.
