Question 669: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the reason local authorities will levy and have levied waste charges against community and voluntary groups; and if he will have such charges re-examined as being counterproductive and against the public interest. The setting of charges in respect of waste management services provided by a local authority is entirely a matter for the authority. Similarly, the provision by a local authority of a waiver in respect of all or part of a charge for the provision of a waste service by, or on behalf of that authority is solely a matter for the local authority concerned.
