Question 368: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government when the sewerage schemes for Kilkerrin, Dunmore and Leenane, County Galway, will commence; the reason it has taken so long to commence the project in view of the fact that approval was awarded more than two years ago; if the projects are to be carried out under the design, build and operate scheme which has caused such long delays; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Dunmore, Kilkerrin and Leenane sewerage schemes have been approved for construction in my Department's water services investment programme, 2004-2006, under the rural towns and villages initiative. Galway County Council's tender recommendations for the sewerage network elements of the three schemes, together with the council's tender documents for the waste water treatment plants, are being examined in my Department and will be dealt with as quickly as possible. The waste water treatment plants will be constructed under a grouped design, build, operate contract to optimise efficiency and value for money in the procurement process.
