Question 413: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the average time for dealing with patients from the time of arrival to the time of discharge at the accident and emergency unit, St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny; if there is a need to increase the staff numbers; the reason patients will have been detained for up to 10 hours at the unit on 8 and 9 February 2004; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of services at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny is, in the first instance, a matter for the South Eastern Health Board. My Department has, asked the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
