I wish to deal with a procedural matter which arose yesterday evening. On 7 November Senator Kathryn Reilly submitted a motion to be taken on the Adjournment of the House by the Department of Health. The matter was in order and selected for discussion yesterday. The Department of Health failed to provide a Minister and in the circumstances Senator Reilly withdrew the matter and resubmitted it for today. I am very disappointed the situation arose, particularly as the Senator had given more than ample notice of the matter she wished to raise. I request the Leader to take up this matter with the Government to ensure this unacceptable situation does not arise again.

I will certainly bring this matter to the attention of the Government.

I have received notice from Senator Kathryn Reilly that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to outline the reasons a promised podiatry post at Cavan General Hospital, sanctioned in April 2012, will not be filled because of the HSE recruitment embargo, given that the post was planned as part of the national foot care programme.
I have also received notice from Senator Thomas Byrne of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Justice and Equality to tackle crime in rural areas, especially burglaries.
I have also received notice from Senator David Cullinane of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government to outline the current funding position of the community and voluntary fora, the plans the Government has to increase funding for these fora and, in particular, the funding needs of the Waterford City Community Forum.
I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business.
