Is mian liom a chur in iúl don Teach gur toghadh an Seanadóir Alan Ó Ceallaigh ina Chomhalta de Pharliaimint na hEorpa agus, dá réir sin, de bhun alt 11 den Acht um Thoghcháin do Pharlaimint na hEorpa 1997, arna leasú le hAcht 2004, scoir sé ar a thoghadh de bheith ina Chomhalta de Sheanad Éireann.

I wish to inform the House that Senator Alan Kelly has been elected a Member of the European Parliament and accordingly, pursuant to section 11 of the European Parliament Elections Act 1997 (as amended by the Act of 2004), he ceased on his election to be a Member of Seanad Éireann.

On behalf of the House I join with the Cathaoirleach in congratulating Alan Kelly on his election to the European Parliament. It is a great honour and a great distinction. I hope the experience he has gained from deliberating in the Upper House will stand him well when representing our country for the next five years.
