If the House agrees, I propose a change to the Order of Business to extend the debate to 4.30 p.m. to enable us to deal with Report and Final Stages of the Taxi Regulation Bill as well as Committee Stage.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach:

Is the leader proposing an amendment to the Order of Business to take all Stages by 4.30 p.m. or to finish Committee Stage by 4.30 p.m.?

I am proposing to finish Committee Stage and then to deal with the Report and Final Stages.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach:

The amendment to the Order of Business is to have all Stages taken by 4.30 p.m.

Yes, if it is in order.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach:

We were to conclude all Stages at 5 p.m.

No, we were to conclude Committee Stage at 4.15 p.m.

If we are to take Report Stage by 4.30 p.m. it does not give us much time for debate.

I am only putting the idea to the House. If the House does not agree, that is fine. Can I then propose that we continue with this until 4.30 p.m., by which time we should have concluded Committee Stage?

An Leas-Chathaoirleach:

Is that agreed?

Fergal Browne (Fine Gael)

We might get through it all by 4.40 p.m.

Senator Tuffy prefers not to do that and I do not want to push the issue.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach:

The Whips had agreed that we would take Report Stage by 4.30p.m.

The Whips had agreed but, as the Leas-Chathaoirleach and I know, it has to be put to the House. That is why I put it that way. Senator Tuffy disagrees and is quite within her rights to do so.

Only five minutes more will be required to take Report Stage. I do not want to rush the debate.

What time would be agreeable to the House?

An Leas-Chathaoirleach:

Senator Tuffy wants to speak on a specific amendment.

I am worried that we might not reach it.

Is a deadline of 4.40 p.m. to complete all Stages agreeable to the House?

An Leas-Chathaoirleach:

Is it agreed to take all Stages by 4.40 p.m.? Agreed.
