I have received notice from Senator Mansergh that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to outline the future of rail freight traffic and, in particular, the possible closure of passenger rail lines.

I have also received notice from Senator Kitt of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism to give priority to the commencement of a six lane swimming pool at Tuam, County Galway, as Tuam is designated in the RAPID programme.

I have also received notice from Senator Feighan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to intervene with the National Lottery to ensure the existing service to Lotto players in 60 or so rural outlets will not be downgraded as this move will be another blow to the viability of these areas.

I have also received notice from Senator Browne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to give a commitment to road building projects and the reason, in the last two years of the national development plan, only 30 kilometres of motorway out of a target of 711 kilometres has been completed.

I have also received notice from Senator Leyden of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to outline to the House, before the USA embarks on war against President Saddam Hussein and the people of Iraq, Ireland's stance at the United Nations Security Council concerning the resolution presently under debate.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Mansergh, Kitt and Feighan as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Browne may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise. I regret that I have to rule Senator Leyden's matter out of order as it is more appropriate for discussion on a substantive motion.
