European Council Decisions: Referral to Joint Committee

I move:

That the proposal that Dáil Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measures:

(i) a proposal for a Council Decision on the improvement of cooperation between the special intervention units of the Member States of the European Union in crisis situations, a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Dáil Éireann on 2nd May, 2008;

(ii) a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on taking account of convictions in the Member States of the European Union in the course of new criminal proceedings, a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Dáil Éireann on 14th day of May 2008;

(iii) Draft Council Decision on the stepping up of cross-border cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism and cross-border crime, a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Dáil Éireann on 15th day of May 2008; and

(iv) a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on the protection of personal data processed in the framework of police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters, a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Dáil Éireann on 27th day of May 2008;

be referred to the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights in accordance with paragraph (2) of the Orders of Reference of that Committee, which, not later than 5th June, 2008, shall send a message to the Dáil in the manner prescribed in Standing Order 87, and Standing Order 86(2) shall accordingly apply.
