I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, in light of the loss disclosed last night by the British authorities of sensitive data on 25 million individuals including names, addresses, social insurance numbers and bank details, the urgent need for the Government here to rethink its e-border plans and to stop pushing through, and to review, all EU measures entailing the building of massive databases of sensitive information on Irish citizens which are accessible to huge numbers of unaccountable agencies across the member states and from which the most basic data protection safeguards are absent, all of which increases the vulnerability of Irish citizens to unjustified interference by state authorities, blackmail and identity theft.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, to discuss the impact that rising fuel costs are having on Irish fishermen and the need to introduce a subsidy scheme that will help to alleviate the pressure this is having on incomes at a time when fishermen are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with growing restrictions on their ability to make a livelihood.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
