I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the crisis levels of alcohol consumption, as outlined by a new study by the Health Service Executive, which is resulting in more than one quarter of all accident and emergency cases being alcohol related, half of all violent killings and one quarter of severe domestic abuse cases being alcohol related and alcohol consumption impacting on road fatalities, cancer levels, unplanned pregnancies and public disorder and, in particular, the rise in alcohol misuse among young adults and teenagers, with damage caused by such misuse being potentially long-term and irreversible.
