I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, that the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government makes an urgent statement to the House clarifying the current status of the Dublin City Council affordable housing panel and if he will outline why this critical scheme has been suspended until at least 31 October 2008; if he will also indicate how he intends to reduce the large waiting lists for affordable and social housing in Dublin City Council and the three other Dublin local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. After 11 years, social housing is not much better than when the Taoiseach first entered office.
